Cyprus-born artist Philippos Theodorides is one of the six designers that collaborated with Ploom, whose front panel design for Ploom X Advanced is at the core of the Milan Design Week 2025 immersive experience.
Ploom’s MDW 2025 presence was focused on connected sensations and an exploration of how its Ploom X Advanced heated tobacco device offers adult smokers’ journeys in sensoriality.
Showcasing the art of connected sensations
Theodorides’ front panel design, A Fluid Sensation, is made up of abstract, curving shapes in deep blue, bright yellow, and accents of white. Adorning the surface, these flowing forms have the appearance of floating freely.
Asked about his front panel design for Ploom X Advanced. He explained: “Sensoriality for me is the power of sensation that derives from a process or an experience and stimulates your body.”
“I started the drawing and instinctively these round organic shapes emerged, which reminded me of gestures that people make when they socialize. Also, I wanted the drawing to be a bit sexy and intriguing to the eye, combining my style, strong colors and decorative elements that most people can relate to.”
Ploom and the art of heated tobacco pleasure
The human experience of pleasure is intensely personal and for Theodorides, pleasure is going to his studio and smelling the paint. It’s engaging in the process of drawing and painting while the sun’s rays come through the window. It’s listening to music.
Ploom’s heated tobacco devices have been designed to give adult smokers moments of tobacco pleasure in more meaningful ways.
For him: “Meaningful pleasure comes through expression, creativity, and the use of color. Every day in the studio is a struggle - whether I erase something or experience that moment of joy when a single stroke on the canvas feels just right. Developing artistic integrity is essential in the pursuit of excellence.”
Journeys in collaboration
Ploom’s immersive experience for MDW 2025 was the culmination of its collaboration with designers from around the world. It was the launch pad for the limited edition collection of front panels that carry the individual artists’ cultural and artistic imprint.
“My work thrives on collaboration,” added Theodorides. “I often respond to site-specific environments or aesthetics from covers of magazines, to brands, and I find that this gives a renewed energy to my work.”
