Ploom’s return to Milan Design Week for the 2025 edition showcased an artistic collaboration with a curated group of six designers, each of whom has reimagined sensoriality, in a unique design for a Ploom X Advanced front panel.
Interdisciplinary designer Dex Fernandez from the Philippines focuses on his eclectic compositions that challenge the traditional definitions of culture and fine art. For Milan Design Week 2025 his work, An Intriguing Sensation, is inspired by Garapata, his iconic street art character
Ploom and a world of connected sensations
Fernandez, explained; “If Ploom satisfies the needs of a user through the sense of touch, taste, and smell, the Garapata adds to this by adding a visual component to the overall experience.”
For Ploom, Fernandez took inspiration from his iconic street art character. The design features multi-colored circular shapes intricately overlaid to form a striking face. By blending digital and abstract design, the resulting panel is visually captivating and a truly unique spectacle.
“Basically, I wanted to integrate the LED light into the overall design,” said Fernandez. “The Garapata symbolizes being carefree and abstract and embodies storytelling through various shapes and forms. The Garapata and Ploom both combine thoughtful and intentional design with artistic and quirky individuality.”
