Ploom at Milan Design Week 2025 - A Creative Collaboration

Valentin Elias Renner’s unique design for Ploom X Advanced, A Rhythmic Sensation, is one of six limited edition front panels that were unveiled by Ploom at Milan Design Week 2025.

Ploom collaborated with a curated group of six designers who share Ploom’s love of design. Each of them has reinterpreted sensoriality using their artistic medium. The resulting limited edition collection of panels for Ploom X Advanced was brought to life at Ploom’s Milan Design Week 2025 (MDW 2025) immersive experience.

Crafting a world of connected sensations

Connected sensations are the essence of Ploom’s presence at MDW 2025. It’s that theme that resonates for Ploom in its approach to design and the work of Valentin Elias Renner.

He found inspiration on a small Indonesian island and created a map, asking fellow guests to connect their hometowns with the island using thread. His unique technique uses nails and thread to create a three-dimensional viewing experience on a two-dimensional surface.

The forms and structures used in his design strongly inspired by fractals – artistic geometric designs that weave hypnotic patterns. They are formed by his creation of precision patterns placed with wire nails and connected with industrially treated cotton-polyester thread on panels covered with pure linen.

Renner explains: “My work is about connecting past and present, structure and fluidity, much like Ploom redefines tradition through modern design and technology.”

Ploom front panels and the art of sensorial design
Sensoriality takes center stage in this intricate exploration of string art and spatial design. The works come to life through the interplay of lines, light, and shadow, creating a distinct spatial effect. Fractal structures and subtle variations in arrangement add a sense of movement, guiding the eye and making the composition feel dynamic. This approach makes his art not only visually engaging but also evokes a sense of rhythm and order—a subtle yet striking form of sensory perception.

He sought to craft a design for Ploom that invites curiosity and exploration—an artwork that, much like his other pieces, encourages viewers to engage with it from different perspectives and discover new details over time.

For him, the pleasure is the ultimate freedom to do whatever he wants while being fully immersed in the moment, loving what he is doing.

“Our collaboration is driven by the same vision—pushing boundaries while staying true to authenticity and creative expression,” explained Renner.

“The design for Ploom is inspired by the idea of transformation and connection, both central themes in my artistic approach. Using my signature technique of nails and threads, I aimed to create a visual experience that feels both structured and dynamic, much like the evolution of ideas and personal journeys.”

“The task of creating an exclusive design for a Ploom product was both inspiring and rewarding. With Ploom, I found a partner who gave me the creative freedom to express myself and showcase my art.”
